Bill Peters contract was extended another 3 seasons. So woo. Keep ‘em in line, sir.
Also, the other day there was a cute write-up on Seth Compton. I say cute because whoever is writing those articles tries to cram as many cliches into one story as possible. It’s like throwing darts at a wall of lines heard in every sports movie ever, then tossing all that in word processor and calling that journalism. I am all for women covering sports, but not when it makes me cringe in embarrassment.
I found a great piece today about female sports bloggers written by The Starter Wife that has a really good point.

She was assigned as the Chiefs beat writer. Not her fault. She doesn’t even like hockey. Not saying anything about other women sports writers but maybe cut her a bit of slack. She could try to use less cliches though. For a beginning journalism assignment when you’re not a big sports fan and especially not hockey, I think she does alright.

It’s kind of odd to me–in order for a female sportscaster to get anywhere, she almost has to know more than any male colleague about what she’s doing, yet she’s also more likely to get stuck doing cutesy-type pieces. Maybe that’s just me, though…
