The Chiefs is starting at 7:30 to accomodate the peeps who want to watch the Gonzaga game. Whoever thought this was a good idea I’d like to meet them and tell them and then perhaps spit in their coffee.. Playoffs wait for no one. I honestly do not get the logic in moving the start time. It really doesn’t make sense. Perhaps they had problems with so many people standing out on the concourse to watch the Bulldogs game in the past. But honey, you have to decide which is more important; the Chiefs or the Bulldogs. It infuriated me before when people came to the hockey game….to watch basketball. GTFO. I hate the fact the Chiefs are constantly on the backburner in this town. It’s bad enough they never get promoted which was evident with the weak crowd last night. Playoffs be damned, it was a Friday. There should have easily been another 1,500 people there. Someone is clearly dropping the ball and it ain’t cute.
This is how I feel about March Madness/Gonzaga;

via Penny Arcade

Even as a Gonzaga fan this is total bullshit. I agree, why are the chiefs always on the backburner? And I was also wondering why there wern’t alot of fans there last night… Is there someone that we can write to and bitch, because im feeling in the mood to do so

I feel the need to call everyone I know and tell them the playoffs have available tickets. I feel like no one knows! It’s horrible!

at 7:05 pm
Ahem, well we could just scream down our dorm hall but MAJORITY DOESNT EVEN KNOW WHO THE CHIEFS ARE! and the other few…. are from TRI CITY!!! We should just go stick flyers on doors but I have a feeling that would go over quite badly seeing as how we are hated here for loving the chiefs lmfao!

It’s amazing how many people don’t realize we have a hockey team.

I just love the fact that so many people only pay attention to the Chiefs when they are doing amazing aka Memorial cup champs! Where is the support they need for the first rounds of playoffs! They draw energy from the crowd so the way I see it very little crowd = very little energy! And frankly they need all the energy they can get these days!
By: NoStache16 on March 21, 2009
at 7:08 pm
lol you are so right with the energy of crowd and energy of chiefs lol. LOVE IT! To bring there energy up.. cough cough last night, we need to fill the WHOLE arena

SOOO TRUE! It’s official, I’m makin some calls. Maybe I’ll even offer to buy some people tickets. This game should be sold out!

By: shindig! on March 21, 2009

I’m really tempted to make some flyers up real quick….I can’t handle a crowd like last night’s. Too many Seattle fans, not enough Chiefs.

They could be simple. PLAYOFFS!!!!1 and then a Chiefs logo. hahaha.

Ok so were doing it. Will tack them on people doors and cars. Anyone have any good ideas where else we can stick them? Anywhere around town where can get some ppl to go?

Ask Pita Pit if you can stick some flyers there, they are very Chiefs friendly.

Start the campaign; http://spokanechiefs.com/locker/staff/ There’s your people to call. I am complaining about the late start time. Late start time, people showing up early means a whole lot of drunk people.

thank you bunches for posting that. There will be at least 5 from me going in. Ill just pretend like im different people lmfao.

Seriously. It sucks when people get an early start on drinking at hockey.
Also the beers there should have sippy cup lids like they do at the ACC in Toronto.
By: wrap around curl on March 21, 2009
at 7:19 pm
lol i agree with that. With the game starting at 7 there are already plenty of drunk people who are out of control. I’ve already emailed the Vice president dude and am sending an email to the one other chief fan at our dorm who is the dorm supervisor. Ill ask if she’ll try to get a whole bunch of people to go… like a function thing.
By: shindig! on March 21, 2009
at 7:24 pm
YES THEY SHOULD! There are drunk people that show up all the time kinda like “What? Why are we at a hockey game… what’s hockey? Let’s drink!” and cut to me 30 minutes later with a ruined purse and shoes after they dropped their drink. You do NOT screw with my purse AND shoes at a HOCKEY game.

Dude, we are going to move out of 118 next year for this very reason. The most obnoxious family of lushes sit right behind us, and before the game even starts our ears hurt from lame taunts and unfunny heckling. We’re tired of being embarrassed for fellow fans whenever we bring somebody to a game. We moved into 117 for the playoffs, and the fuckers also moved… RIGHT ACROSS THE AISLE FROM US.
By: Chris on March 21, 2009

Wonder if they are the same people from 118 that I abhor. The few guys and random girl always taunt whatever goalie is in the pipes very loudly with their 6+ beer runs. During the Vancouver game I yelled at them for taunting Sexsmith. Sadness.

Probably the same family adult son with his parents. Piiiiiiiiiiickaaaaaaaaard. 118 row P. One season was enough. We moved for the playoffs and we’ll move next year. Anywhere is better than right in front of those guys…

This is the exact same thing that happened last year. I blame the Chiefs organization for such pathetic p.r attempt. I see a couple billboards in the most random places and I have seen ONE commercial all year promoting them. With the Shock (which isnt even real football) the promote it so much. Last year I wrote multiple letters complaining about this and no response.
By: chiefsfan44 on March 21, 2009
at 8:02 pm
I’ve noticed the lack of promoting that goes into the team here… I thought it was just me. I’ve seen 1 playoffs billboard near Market & Francis, it’s hidden behind a bunch of stuff. Ridiculousness. These kids deserve a little better support. When I moved here 6 years ago, I couldn’t casually find a single person that supported this club and that to me is just weird. They need to step something up here…
But I won’t get too angry about it unless they want to put me in the Marketing department. I’ll just go to tonight’s game and scream extra loud. RAWRRR “GO CHIEFS GO!” (I’m going to start saying that at the end of every drive-thru order, every board meeting, and in-lieu of ‘Hello’ to people I meet.)
By: CanadianWasTaken on March 21, 2009
at 8:42 pm
I don’t want to kick the hornets nest here, but it does seem to me like you have to take the size of the organization and revenue into consideration when considering promotion. Billboards are expensive, and usually the only way to get onto one that isn’t crazy pricey is to buy one with less than perfect location. Most WHL teams don’t make a ton of money (some, like Seattle, were recently in the red for years), and thus don’t have a lot to spend on advertising. You have to take what little you have and try to get it in front of the most eyeballs in the cheapest way possible. Sporatic billboards and paper/magazine ads is a good way to do this without incurring the ridiculous costs of TV or radio adverts. The fact that the team gets day-after coverage on the local news is more than almost any other team gets in this division, and is worth gold in free advertising.
I think the same attitude applies to tonight’s delay. It’s much better to deal with the reality that basketball is the #1 game in this town, and that it’s better to start at 7:30 with 6,000 butts in the seats than 7:00 with 2,000. Obviously, we all wish that hockey was #1 here, but that’s not the case today. No need to try to challenge basketball on the biggest week of the year in this city for sports.
*runs away before you all take slap shots at me*

It’s all very true… I just tend to vent from time to time. [[steps off soap box]]
We devoted fans invest a lot of money and soul into the love of our teams (everywhere). I split my monies between the Giants & the Chiefs and there’s just not a major faith in hockey here in Spokane like in basketball that land all the national coverage. Hmmmmm, it’s hard to be a hockey fan in a media-seduced, basketball America.
Making sense isn’t anything to run from! LOL We’re all just passionate about our hockey

I ain’t mad atcha. No I get what you are saying. My thing is they totally neglect the power of internet promotions. Which is basically cheap and easy and targets a large audience.

Okay, up on my soapbox … who cares if it is 7:00 or 7:30 … I could give two shits (even though my wife and I are both alumn) … but from a business standpoint it makes sence to serve the will of the casual fan … this way they get to sell beer for an extra 30 minutes … and people don’t have to choose one event over the other … it could be worse guys/gals .. we could have a rink like Tri-Cities and no D1 basketball team:)

Ugh we LOST! Im really upset and still had hope all the way down to the last seconds that we would somehow pull through. Can someone bench Mitch Wahl please, the kid is totally off and can’t even complete a pass. The only good part of tonight came before the game when the guys were out there in their underarmor……oh God they looked good. Oh and Wraps- LOVE THE CD! Id heard and wanted so many of those songs before but never knew the name of them.
