is this real life?

roarrrrrrr.

roarrrrrrr.

This is real life. This is happening. The Chiefs are done with their run for a third Memorial Cup. I am nothing but proud of them considering there were quite the snags along the way. The team was constantly fighting through injuries as well as some suspensions and that whole food poisoning fiasco. I had my doubts in the team throughout the season. I threw a fit when they went captainless for so long. I wasn’t pleased with James Reid not seeing more minutes he deserved. I lost my mind when the Chiefs got lazy and would rest on Dustin Tokarski. I questioned the chemistry of the team more than I wanted to.

I knew the magic of last years team was going to be difficult to replicate because really, how do you best Chris Bruton? You don’t. He had so much heart and was the quintessential captain and Chief. The team was a scrappy bunch this year who had the talent and experience to go far, but ended up being beaten by the fierce Vancouver Giants.

This game was more tension that I could handle. Scoreless in regulation and the penalties in favor of Spokane but it just didn’t happen. There were several near goals and I was screaming and shrieking at my television. Hoping that I could will the puck into the net. It needed to happen. A hat tip to Dustin Tokarski, it was a fine performance. Tokarski was just pounded with shots and I started to have a sinking feeling when I saw the numbers and just how far ahead the Giants were on scoring attempts. And then in the first overtime, a bouncing puck ended up in the Chiefs net.

I winced after the first period when Jared Spurgeon was interviewed and basically said the Chiefs were lucky to have Toka in the pipes. That isn’t what I wanted to hear; he shouldn’t be propping the team up. Len Barrie, of the Tampa Bay organization, was interviewed during an intermission as well and was rather flippant about Tokarski. Who is drafted to his fucking team. Barrie said the Lightning are deep as far as goalies go. But you know, that doesn’t mean they are deep with solid goalies. So it remains unknown if Saint Tokarski will be returning in a Chiefs sweater or will be jumping into the blue and black Bolts.

I am putting off thinking about the potential over-ager situation of the next season. We can dwell on things later. For now we will thank the Chiefs for another great season while I am wondering what to do with my (junior) hockey void. I have projects lined up for the summer that you darlings will love. I will be going to Montreal for the NHL Draft because I need to see in person if my darling Maple Leafs take our Cow Cow. I will find other things to write about. What will we do without hockey? We have baseball (Griffey is back!) and footie matches (Go Sounders!), not to mention my usual brand of silly girl fun (oh heyyyy). Before you know it, it will be August and we will have new babeh Chiefies to coo over.

I recommend the Midnight Truffle Blizzard at DQ. Seriously divine.

Stay tuned I will have some nostalgia posts up here in a few days, so we can relive the better bits of the season.

  1. Sorry about the loss :/

  2. OHHH what a season of epicness it all was. Seriously like a rollercoaster. I think I’m going to move my season ticket next season… I must choose a new place. OMG! Gotta prepare for next season! I’m gonna miss Glass the most just because I’m not really sure what he’s doing afterwards… I’m going to take up stalking Calla’s career later on in the year. And Ondrej… I’m always gonna miss him. But what a beautiful season… I must go write. Go Chiefs Go.

    • Seriously, Super Calla really grew on me. I know I was irked when we lost Compton. But man, Calla was a great presence.

      • yeah…not gonna lie, when comp was traded i wanted blood and i wasn’t ruling calla out as a source. now i just utterly love him!

  3. I’m not going to gloat or anything. Yes, I was cheering for my beloved Giants, and man did they deserve that win last night. Thing is, if Spokane had scored that solitary goal, I would be saying the EXACT same thing. Honestly, the Chiefs have a special place in my heart. It could be that Dustin Tokarski is effing amazing. Or maybe it’s that Drayson Bowman is just clutch-city sometimes. Or maybe that Tyler Johnson smiling into the camera makes my eyes turn to goo (in a strictly can-I-please-adopt-you-as-my-little-brother sort of way). Whatever the reason, I’m sad they’re out.

This is going down in the “Most Epic Playoff Series Ever” column.

  4. I’m trying to be optimistic too. Just gonna focus on the newby potentials! haha

  5. ok… spokane guys interviews after the season. Tok = adorable. BOWMAN= LOVE. Could cry right now.

Roman remembers growing a beard, that’s so sweet.

Congrats on the call up to Carolina, Bows!

      • Drayson Bowman–Thank you for making me cry. AGAIN.

        • Our Chiefs calendars… April is Bowman’s month. It felt a little bitter-sweet this morning when I looked at it.

    • Bows doesn’t even sound like he’s excited. “I gotta go up there…” Come on kid, could you make it any harder on me?

      • i mean he’s probably not over the loss yet you know. Saw Glass interview on TV… he looked so sad. Im going to miss that toothless grin and strong body on the ice for sure. I hate when good things come to an end… I think i need to make a countdown or something until the first opening game of the season lol

    • Totally read that article first thing this morning!

  8. They added more vids to Krem! Calla, Glass, McCrae, and Sauter!

  9. awwww. im so sad now. Roman is adorable, and I realized there’s gonna be no more dino man :( and no tokarski. sad sad sad.
least the jareds aren’t leaving me. I hope…

    • We still have the Jareds. <3

      • Well that makes me happy! I wasn’t quite sure if both stay or not, haha. I love the Jareds (: ah all this leaving made me worry..

  10. Did anyone listen to the Spokane Sports Show today on 1510?? Shawn Wittmer kept saying “We will NEVER see Drayson Bowman in Spokane again…unless there the plane he is on as a Carolina Hurricane going to play in Vancouver has to make an emergency landing at Geiger….we will Never see Bowman in the Arena again” THANK YOU FOR DIGGING THAT DAGGER DEEPER IN MY HEART. Then I cried. Again.

I have to do my goodbyes:

**Brody/SuperCalla-I am right there with everyone about missing him. He came here and was apart of the team right away. I remember after his first home game, I was standing by his parents and then he brings Lettsy over and introduces them to him and he was all proper about it. He’s just…mature. He will do great things.
**MacCers–I never really “bonded” with you, but you’ll be missed. Stay healthy and good luck!
**Romy–My fav Czech. Going to miss your sauciness and hearing your accent. I fought sooo hard to get you back on the Chiefs roster and it was well worth it. FREE ONDREJ!
**Glass-You have such a presence about you. I just can’t explain it. Going to miss the crap out of you. Now please cut your hair and put on your cute Miami Vice suit.
**Toka-Thank you for teaching Reid how to do his hair. You will be a big name in hockey. Please stay the lovable, fun loving goalie you are now.
**Drayson BOWman—How can I say goodbye? I can’t. So I will say hello to you and to following your career from afar. I will miss seeing you celebrate a goal (because we never know what you are going to do) and seeing you get quietly frustrated (grrrr I knew you had it in you). Most of my fav hockey memories involve you! Good times were had. On to the big times. Thank you for being my hockey boyfriend…even if you didn’t know it.

Okay, now I feel better. Now I have some closure. Does anyone else feel like they didn’t get closure???? Uggg Why wasn’t there some rally to welcome them home???

After thought **No one told me Dray got called up! Yeah for him!!! Even if I am still crying. Did he have a booboo above his eye?

    • i definitely second the no closure thing, I was watching them play at the arena just last week! D=

      on a happier note…
      http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftprospectbrowse.htm
heeyyy. look who’s featured on the left side of the banner!
our very own #9 draft pick, Senior Cow Cow :]

    • Not really too much closure for sure… a rally of some sort would have been nice… or some beers down at The Onion. Someone call up Trevor! This makes me just more determined to find them all come next hockey season… Like I need more to keep track of…

  11. I might cry right now….I cant get the interviews to work…. :(
