Ok, so I made a survey of sorts. I’d like to take a look at instances of hockey affecting relationships and relationships affecting hockey etc. I hope to gather a bunch of anecdotes to share and to see if there are any overall themes and write a mega post or break it by the survey questions. I’d love to get as many responses as possible. So if you want to participate, email me and there is more info in the email to answer your burning questions.
So drop me a line; wraparoundcurl@gmail.com
Thanks so much.
Love, WAC
UPDATE; also I am looking for various ages and fans of different teams too. I am probably crazy for making such a beast. But I think you guys will like the results. As this goes on and as I’ve thought up more questions to tack on and I’ll do my best to get you the new questions.

I don’t have any stories of my own, but I did see this last year:

That made my day, the answers were hilarious. I really don’t see her problem though…

You know what the real problem was, don’t you? Notice the date–pre-Bylsma! He was in an evil mood, and there was hardly any winning sports team sex for her!

I have one story that I can think of.
I had box seats for a Leafs game and was going with this girl. I went to pick her up and she wasn’t ready. I figured it would take her a couple minutes and since I was already there early, since I like getting to the games 20-30 mins before they start, I still would get to the game on time.
We got to the game at the end of the 1st period. To make matters worse she thought it was a basketball game despite the tickets saying “Toronto Maple Leafs”. I was so angry that I don’t think I said a word to her the rest of the night.

Looking back at my dating history, I’ve discovered a ridiculous tendency to date women with little or no interest in hockey (or sports as a whole). I guess I like the challenge. Doh! So I’m not sure I have a good story to tell. I take great pride in the fact that I got my gf to go to her first ever Leaf game last year (preseason win, woo!) and that she can name at least one (Kaberle, if they trade Sweetcheeks, I think Schenn might win her fandom). The only weird thing I know is she hates truculence! She changes the channel on fights or even scrums, or gets mad at the players for not being nice. This provides me much entertainment when I’m lucky enough to get the sole tv on the game. She loves that the folks at PPP post a live game stream online so she can watch her shows. Her favourite part of any game all season is Don Cherry jackets and Ron arguing with him.
Not sure if any of this is survey worthy. Hopefully something more entertaining happens this season.

My GF and I got into a bit of a quibble, we were watching game 4 of the Habs-Bruins playoff series this past playoffs. She was cheering for the Habs because they are a Canadian team, which very much irritated me.
I then promptly informed her that she was obviously not a real Leafs fan if she dared cheered for the Habs under ANY circumstances… which upset her considerably and we got into a bit of an argument.
Anyway its not something we really discuss anymore and I can at least take some comfort in the fact that she really really hates the Sens and absolutely loathes Alfredsson.

A few years back I used to watch a lot of Leafs games at the apartment of a friend who I’d known for years. His girlfriend was also a big Leafs fan so we’d all have a few beers and watch the game together.
My friend was working nights for a while so his girlfriend and I, having become friends ourselves and having no one else to watch the games with watched a few games at her place. It was completely innocent but we didn’t tell him about it because he could be somewhat unpredictable.
Of course, my friend found out and flipped. The strange thing was that he didn’t suspect any funny business and wasn’t angry with me at all. He was furious at his girlfriend for ‘muscling in’ on our friendship and suggested she should get her own friends.
Very unsettling and uncomfortable experience.

I’m in the recovery phase after my BF and I called it quits at the beginning of June. He gets his ‘freedom’ and I get to pick up the pieces of my shattered dreams. Or something along those lines.
But y’all can relax – I’m not here for therapy, just your advice.
The problem is that I love Caps hockey and he has possession of the season tickets (which are properly his and I make no claim on them) as well as the AO red-rocked home jersey I bought him for Christmas.
My shorts are well and truly frosted as I think of him serenely going to the season opener, to the Pens and Flyers games, to the playoffs in the sweater I bought for him. Without me at his side.
I had hopes’n'dreams invested in that silly piece of cloth, and it hurts that he was and is so indifferent to its significance to me.
I understand that I should just let it go and carry on, but part of me SO wants to demand the return of that jersey.
I will not, as I realize that I can’t move forward if I’m always looking back.
But I still want to.

PS I’d like to get the Dale Hunter autographed puck back too.

Actually I would like to apologize to all hockey fans for the win in Pittsburgh This year. The girl Im seeing is amazingly into hockey..Obviously a Pittsburgh Fan…me being a Devils fan figure it should be a good time.
Bought her a Pitt 3rd jersey for the playoffs..why because Pittsburgh couldnt win anything with the powder blue. Figure …hehe… it will bring bad luck… Well of course no good deed goes unpunished

I broke up with my boyfriend when I realized I wasn’t willing to drive to Arlington to see him, but I was willing to drive to Arlington three times in one week to watch Capitals development camp. I’m up for the survey.

My friend Steve was asking me about my new girlfriend when he came to the important question:
Steve: Now the big question. Does she watch hockey?
Me: Yes.
Steve: Ok, that’s goo –
Me [interrupting]: But! She’s a Roenick fan.
Steve: Oh my God that’s horrible.

Chris: So I’m seeing this girl now.
Curt: That’s great man! Does she know hockey?
Chris: She knows enough to keep her mouth shut when the Leafs are on the powerplay.
