Sometimes, I have my moments. They usually come when I am deliriously tired and exhausted. The other evening while socializing with the Panel we decided a midnight viewing of Mighty Ducks was in order. What made the movie amusing was J. saying the dialog about a minute ahead of it happening in the movie. So he’d exclaim CAKE EATER and then laugh when it actually happened. Then I’d hand him the bottle of rum and tell him to drink.

There were all sorts of random observations to be made. Details that have escaped me over the years. Like just how much Flyers stuff Goldberg wears. Charlie at one point wears plaid with plaid. Guy wears a weird hat and a Habs jersey, because he is apparently French Canadian? A few others wear Stars and Sharks stuff. Despite the fact that District Five Hockey is in Minnesota.

Then I had some grand epiphany. Kyle Beach is JUST LIKE Adam Banks. Banksy is the hated player and he is a Hawk. He’s got skill, finesse, is a bit of a prick and really just wants to play hockey. Banks isn’t exactly welcomed into the Ducks locker room and the fans aren’t exactly digging his flavor of Kool Aid. But then the stars align and then all is right in the world and everyone decides they love Banks/Beach after seeing his joy and enthusiasm playing. They are smitten with his sexy puck moving skills and his putting pucks on net hard and fast. And we are still working out which Duck is equivalent to which Chief. But for now, Beach = Banks.

Last night the Chiefs played the Kootenay Ice and looked supremely lethargic through much of the first. I was snarling and wanting to kick the seat in front of me. But there was a dude sitting there and he kept chatting me up and I was trying to see if I could get him to buy me some Red Vines. Anyway. Kyle was on a rampage and was injured at the top of the second. I didn’t see the hit. I was stuck in line buying a bottle of water. And I come back and scream at the woman next to me WHY IS BEACH CRUMPLED ON THE ICE? She blinked at me and went back to shopping for shoes on her Blackberry. No, I am not kidding.

The starting line was a totally random assortment that left some of us in bewilderment and scrunched faces clearly expressing WTF. The new goalie, Michael Tadjdeh, started and he looked a bit rough in the first. He has the balance and poise of a Weeble Wobble. But he didn’t do too shabby and the Chiefs somehow pulled out a win. Putting up goals were Steve Kuhn, Mr Beach and Kenton Miller.
