"Kyle Beach for President."

That was a sign someone brought to the game last night. I wanted to hug them. The Beach Bunny Nation is a strong force.

It is bad when people want the captain of the team traded. Jared Cowen, you are done here. Go to Ottawa. Let’s trade Hardy Sauter while we are at it. It is time for a leadership change. I don’t even care if the Chiefs won last night. Ok, I do. But that is not the point. I think there should be house cleaning.

Before the game started there was recognition of the players returning from tournaments; Tyler Johnson for his gold. Jared Cowen for his silver. Stefan Ulmer returned from Team Austria. Baby Chiefies Brady Brassart and Mitch Holmberg returned from Team Pacific.

Considering how ugly Friday’s game against Chilliwack was, I expected this game to be about the same. The first period was a bit of a scramble which went scoreless though the Chiefs had enough power play opportunities.  The second period saw (Spokane’s Own, Gold Medalist) Tyler Johnson scoring, helped by Stefan Ulmer. James Reid was making killer saves and managed to be everywhere at once. The team is still having probs with turnovers. Jared Spurgeon scored in the third to seal the deal and the final score was Chiefs 2, Americans 1.

One thing to note is how the team plays. Blake Gal and Tyler Johnson play big for their size. Gal is an absolute smashing force. Whereas Cory Baldwin seems to forget he is 6’5″ and plays rather meek. Throw your weight around, Cory. Jared Cowen was getting pushed around by players who were a foot short and fifty pounds lighter. That ain’t right. Get some swagger.
