If Tyler Johnson scores a hat trick, and no hats are thrown, does it still count?

Ok, I didn’t think TJ had a hattie last night, but checking the WHL summary, he apparently did…

Last night the Chiefs took on the Prince George Cougars for some Friday night action. But before all that fun, there was the ceremony celebrating the 25 greatest Chiefs of the past quarter century as voted by us plebs. I mean fans. A good lot of the former players were in attendance, taking to the ice to smile and wave. The announcer dude said “big weekend” often enough it could have been a drinking game. One would have been completely shithouse drunk before the puck even dropped if one participated.

I was almost a bit surprised the returning players weren’t wearing the scarves. YOU KNOW, OUR NEW TEAM TRADITION. IT’S A TRADITION BECAUSE WE SAY IT IS. WAIT, WHY AREN’T YOU HOLDING UP SCARVES RIGHT NOW?

Anyways, players stood on the ice. The regular Chiefies did the billet family parade thing. TC Cratsenberg was a winner and wore his red sweater while everyone else had on their whites. It was also jersey off the back auction night. I avoided listening in on that madness because I didn’t want to cry and think about how much the jerseys were selling for. Oh, 3400 bucks? Someone could buy me a new transmission for my car with that. And then I’m sure I’d have some left to buy some really rad shoes.

Then there was a game. I’m not entirely sure what happened in the first period as I wasn’t in my usual seat. Instead I was in another section, stuck with a screaming toddler behind me whose parents thought it was cute the tot kept trying to go through my purse. No, it is not cute when I am trying to keep Doritos hands off my bag of cough drops and PopTarts (I cleverly hid them). Oh Prince George. Playing them is like kicking a puppy. Sometimes.

I kindaaaa predicted the Chiefs would sit this one back and coast, to save gas for tonight and Tri City. But no, it was a solid to decent effort. PG just has a goalie with about the same stats as Vesa Toskala. He often looked shaky and rattled. In the end he was shelled 5-1 one. Which means we get chalupassssss.

Tonight is the Breast Cancer Awareness game against Tri. Also known as the game they don’t even try to promote that much. At least by my standards.

  1. You crack me up! We were at the game last night too. No crying babies, but a crazy scarf waving fan behind us!

We were wondering when they said…”new tradition” Isn’t a tradition when you’ve done something for awhile? They need to work on their marketing :-)

Also didn’t realize TJ had a hat trick until I was trying to figure out why the guy 5 rows in front of us was trying to throw his hat over the net at the goal end…I just knew that it wasn’t going to go over…but I didn’t want to mess with his manhood by telling him he didn’t have the arm dude!

    • If you go to the ticket office, there is a bright orange paper in fancy font that rambles about the tradition of our new scarves. Its kinda hilarious.

I thought that goal went to Beach or something? Unless it was later changed. I didn’t notice anyone near me trying to throw hats at all.

  2. It was changed a few mins after. It went off of Johnson’s hip and in, so they changed it to him. I saw one hat, ONE, that was thrown at the end of the game, and Letts tried to put it on Spurge, who wasn’t enamored with having a stranger’s head goo all over his own. Go figure.

    • BAHAHAHAHA….soooo wish I would’ve seen that.
