BTW, “spirited exchange” is code for “was kinda a dick.”
Perhaps it was the heat that caused them to boil over. Maybe it was spending several days in close quarters with other prospects.
Whatever the reason, Zack Smith and Jared Cowen clearly don’t buy the notion that summer hockey is about light exercise and no contact.
There they were Monday, pushing and shoving — and shoving some more — during a 3-on-3 scrimmage to end the Ottawa Senators’ development camp at the Bell Sensplex. Smith and Cowen stopped just short of dropping the gloves before their spirited exchange ended.
Ok, so let’s count how many times we have seen Cowen drop mitts in a Chiefs sweater. I count….two times? I just remember one time someone banging into Dustin Tokarski and Jared stepping in to right the world. Then I think there was another incident. So, is Ottawa encouraging a more truculent player? I’d hope he’s actually being physical for once and working on the accuracy of his hits. I think Jared Spurgeon did more damage on defense.

Dear Jared Spurgeon… WHERE ARE YOUUUUU!?
I only remember one time where Cowen stepped up and broke half of Portland’s team in like 4 seconds. Why does ruptured spleen ring a bell?

Oh yes. THE SHIFT. I do believe we lost that game but Cowen himself sent 3 Winterhawks home injured? He was a wrecking ball.
I miss our lil’ Spurgeon!
