This actually shocks me. I figured because of the pomp and circumstance that Jared Cowen would retain the C for this upcoming season. I really am glad it went to someone deserving of the role. Levko Koper gets the A. Its clear with the coach, there is a new sheriff in town.
Also this quote is so hilariously backhanded. I want it like, cross stitched into a pillow.
“Jared Cowen’s goal is to play in the NHL this season with the Senators,” Nachbaur said. “The Spokane Chiefs wish him the best in trying to achieve that goal.”
How do you feel about this change?

Can you imagine the promos that are going to go with this…? But I’m actually happy with this choice.
They’re going to have to install gutters around the ice so the tears from the “Goodbye 20-y/o Night” don’t flood-then-melt the ice.

I’m totally cool with this choice too. I think its a step in the right direction.
I’m sure the celebrations will rival most Communist Party rallies with the banners and music.

As much crap as I throw at Tyler Johnson (c’mon, how can you not? 12 year old girls just DIE for him), I am glad he’s Captain.
Love the quote. I say ‘Good Luck’ as well.

I think he’s proved his worth. And we kid because we care.
That quote is so glorious. Like, bravo!

Just a heads up, Don Nachbaur was a part of the Ottawa system as a coach, and has been in extensive talks with their NHL team regarding Cowen.
They had told him that Cowen would likely make the NHL, his performance in preseason was largely impressive, but he was the very final cut, they felt him playing 30 minutes a night would be better.
In addition they could also closely monitor Cowen’s play with communication with Nachbaur, many coaches you couldn’t do this with but Nachbaur will be in constant communication with Ottawa keeping tabs on Cowen.
Basically Nachbaur was told Cowen was playing in the NHL, and then they decided that having David Hale would be better, cowen could get far more playing time this way, and can play in the WJHC, and in addition Spokane has the option of trading Jared at a the deadline for a good return.
In conclusion, there is no hidden meaning behind the quotation, Jared wasn’t though to be available.
A motivated Jared Cowen is a huge boost to the Spokane Chiefs, and I think ultimately he will benefit from playing back in junior.

Thanks for the comment. No matter how much it reads like Cowen’s agent wrote it.
Considering who the quote came from, its easy to imagine the sarcasm tinging these stock quotes. And how for a good lot, Cowen isn’t a welcome presence.

Well coaches make a huge difference to their teams, from their system to how aggressiveand competitive they are.
We’ll see how well Don Nachbaur improves the team, but the thing is Ottawa itself can apply pressure to Cowen not to slack off because of the very close relationship.
When Jared Cowen plays at his best and is motivated he is a great player, he certainly might have had some moments last year where he was not inspired looking, but I think he will improve.
He rehabbed his injured knee extensively, and I imagine that will translate hopefully into improved play. He is just a kid, and being the final cut at the NHL team might get him down, and frankly I can understand him last year playing not to get injured, his whole lift is ahead of him.
He said that his body never felt right, and this summer was the first time he had time to extensively train it.
I’m not his agent by any means, I just think with the Ottawa management keeping a very close eye on him through very close relations with Don Nachbaur his play should really improve, in addition to having a summer to train and regain the trust in his body, he said he has to get used to playing without a wonky knee again.
I don’t understand the big hate for the guy, he’s a great guy he just needs to be inspired, and after now having been through training camp hopefully he plays to his abilities.

Our problem and I’m choosing to speak for other parts of the group, was he did not seem to try on a consistent basis nor display the qualities needed in a captain. There was a massive disconnect we saw. And when you’re at every home game, things do become noticeable. Other team members had to step up because it wasn’t working. Routinely Kyle Beach would be directing face offs and taking an interest in leading. Or Spurgeon or Johnson. It felt like as fans, we were stuck with a captain based on his being drafted rather than what his performance was. And when a 5’8 185 pound defensemen is more effective and putting in more work than Cowen? Its disappointing and frustrating. I’d gladly shut my mouth if he can turn it around. But in the meanwhile, he has a huge hole he dug for a lot of people.

cowen is clearly solid we saw that before the injusry. only thing wrong with him is he dosent always give his all. but isnt needed for him cause he already has been drafted next year regardless i find him playing ahl or nhl. he dosent like it here because people bag on him so much. plus beach slacked twice as much as him. but people loved him cause he scored. picture of he tried 100% of the time like people expect. he probably could have scored 70 goals lol. not starting a drama filled thing just love cowen.
