Ok I’m a bit zonked out with a cold and I remembered I hadn’t put anything down about the home opening.
The evening started off with a new montage and player introductions. Both were uhm…..uhmmm, uhh….Bad. The new montage is missing the ferocity of last year’s. Not to mention I have no idea what song they are using, whatever it is, its weak. It lacks the heart and anticipation of year’s prior. I didn’t feel excited or like I was back home. I just felt weird. And certainly lacking goosebumps.
I’m tempted to mess about iMovie and cut my own. Or maybe I can bribe this guy. If he can take my basement dwelling Leafs and make them look this good?
We did have new player intros. Where they snapped their heads up in a combo Tyra Banks/Dramatic Chipmunk kind of way. Some did this better than others. But I might have been laughing more at the over usage of the fake flames the production was crazy about.
The game, aha, the game! It had a solid momentum for a good lot of it. The arena was fairly buzzy even if the crowd was light for a home opener and the Chiefs were taking on the Americans. Who was ready for the game purely based on superficial appearances? Blake Gal’s hair and Levko Koper’s scruff. They came to play hockey.
Tri City was first on the board but Gal and Tyler Johnson don’t go down like that and quickly returned the favor scoring goals. The Koper decided the goal count wasn’t high enough yet and put one on. But so did the Ams.
A dizzying first, yeah?
I haven’t had a chance to inspect, yet but the merch shop has promising new items in including a license plate frame informing other humanoids to get out of the way because there’s a hockey game. And there’s a hoodie was skate laces. My heart swells with delight!
The second period saw the Ams getting their digs in. Oddly no real fights. Both sides were nice and rough but I was surprised no mitts were dropped. Maybe that is being saved up for a special occasion.
The Ams got ahead in the third but Gal popped one in on the power play sending the game to overtime.
I was freaking out as the prospect of shootouts make me ill.
BUT IT’S OK. THE PRECIOUS MITCH HOLMBERG SCORED A GOAL. And what resulted was probably the most adorable goal celebration in recent memory. D’awhhh. I love you boys.
New stat for the season. I’m going to track how many times Tyler Johnson gets first star. He got it last night. So.
Tyler Johnson First Star Count: 1

WOOOO!1
Besides the ignorant whore sitting behind me calling everything “random”, this was an aaaawesome home opener. And we should definitely bribe that dude, I DEMAND GOOSEBUMPS CHIEFS!!!

I think the most jarring part was the song wasn’t familiar. Do you know what it was? I didn’t.
ALSO, I can’t believe I forgot to mention that horrid Ams skit where the “player” is doing his nails in the box while a five year old song plays. UGH.

uhhh why do i feel like someone is trying to be a “know it all”……. everyone has their right to an opinion.
Why not trade cowen close to the deadline to a team making a deep playoff run and get some younger D, god knows we could use it
