IT SHOULD STILL BE SPOKANE’S OWN- NATIVE -CAPTAIN -TYLER -FACE OFF- GOLD MEDAL WINNING -SPECIAL SAUCE -JOHNSON!! (Did I forget anything?)
Okay, in all seriousness, I think Johnny should have kept the C. They gave it to him, regardless of Cowen’s situation. There was never a 100% guarentee where Cowen would end up so imo they made the choice and should have stuck with it. Cowen can have the other A.
And regarding the latest news….I’m excited to see Kramer play. Hope he’s as truculent as he’s been made out to be.

I truly feel like Tyler proved his worth to earn captaincy. Last season was a bit of a disaster with Cowen in that role. And we kid because we care, Johnson.
I think Cowen wearing the C is just beauty pageant bullshit. I’m sorry, but there have been plenty of top ten, first round busts. It just feels like a PR stunt and the organization is doing it because they are desperate for attention.
Perhaps this mess is supposed to distract me from how much ticket prices shot up.
I’m excited for the newbie. We really need to toughen up.

“beauty pageant bullshit” exactly.
How much did tickets goup? I didn’t even notice…
We really do need to toughen up. Just this morning I was envying the Winterhawks and that damn Brad Ross….

They went up to 17 each, 16 with student discount. I think my chin hit the counter when I asked for three tickets and was told 48 dollars. I think before it was like, 14 ish?
I LOVE BRAD ROSS. You know he’s tough because the Leafs drafted him. He’s Brian Burke approved.

Sheesh….that’s ridiculous.
He’s…I honestly can’t think of a word. It is so much fun to watch him play, never gets old. And Brian Burke approved=bamf.

Honestly… Johnson as Captain needs to stick. Every game, he argued calls, fought for the guys, showed some leadership. Good stuff.
We kid a lot… because… well… we care a lot, Johnson.
I don’t think Cowen will be a “draft bust” but I don’t think he’s the greatest thing to hit Ottawa ice… but that’s just me.

I think Johnson really has toughened up and shown grit and heart. He is a small player but that hasn’t stopped him from checking the best of them.
Is there a rule that would allow the team to have two captains and then they just rotate? Or can A’s only rotate?

well regardless who has the C they can go out and argue calls. johnson does it cause thats the type of player he is. that is regular hockey its not like “oh he went up to the big show for a little, take the C away”. i love them both, but this site shouldnt be where people come to bash on the players.
By: JJ on October 6, 2010

This isn’t facebook, we can pretty much say whatever the hell we want, especially Wraps. For me it’s not “oh he went up to the big show”, it’s “he underperformed as captain last year, give it to someone who works for it night in and night out”.

As this is my turf, I don’t think there is any bashing. I’m allowed to be critical of the decisions and organization makes as I purchase tickets. As is anyone else. I’m not a Cowen fan, he’s welcome to prove me and others wrong. I think the stripping Johnson of the C is confusing and in poor taste.
By: wrap around curl on October 6, 2010

plus if johnson went scoreless all year we would all love him….but cowen on the other hand could mess up once and everyone hates him! wierd.
plus nobody knows it but our coach could have told johnson that when or if cowen comes back he wont have the C anymore.

No I think you have our general ideas around here warped. Contrary to popular belief we do operate on logic and reason. In fact, I demand of those who comment.
By: wrap around curl on October 6, 2010

Yes Johnson could go scoreless and I would still love him….BECAUSE HE WORKS HIS ASS OFF. Not because he is Johnson. I appreciate work ethic most in a player. Doesn’t matter if they never show up on the board, if they are at least working hard I respect that. If Johnson didn’t give the 150% he does every night I would want to strangle him as much as I do some other players. Being a fan doesn’t mean never criticizing your team, that’s just ignorance.

wasnt cowens choice if he wanted to be captain. he could probably care less. coaches make what choice they find as best. and its wierd u call urself a fan but then have to down talk ur own team.
By: JJ on October 6, 2010
at 4:09 pm
Then if he doesn’t care about captain, we have major fucking issues.
Please use proper grammar and punctuation if you are going to comment here.
Do not question my fandom. I’ve been pretty positive about the new team changes. I’ve taken the new coach in stride. Dare I say I’ve even taken a shine to him. I’m optimistic about the future. But I question the major players who have to shoulder the burden of the team.

not every player cares or let alone worries about captain. In that case beach should have been captian killed it every night. yeah your allowed to critize your team but chiefs fans do it far to much.
i aprove of this site. and for loving the players that play there ass off? look at holmberg or uher? man they skate there ass off and not an A or a C. they must be upset.

Their fucking sophmores for christ’s sake. They’ll probably be the ones wearing it in the coming years. Get a better argument, I’m bored.

Sydney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, both young captains. Any team captain has the leadership skills the organization seems best to keep the team together. Not every captain leads by example on the ice but by their work ethic off the ice, the voice in the dressing room. I agree that Johnson would be a better captain then Cowan will ever be but that comment about Holmberg and Uher being sophomores was a little upsetting. One last thing, players do care about who their captain is and you clearly don’t know your hockey if that’s how you think it works!
By: Rob on October 8, 2010

First of all it is spelled COWEN. Don’t flap your fucking gab to me if you can’t even get your shit straight. Question: Are you one of the d-bags who also spells Reid “reed”?
Second of all, my comments about the sophomores was to demonstrate that there are indeed many players who bring leadership and work ethic to this team. Far more than there are LETTERS TO WEAR. Jared Spurgeon wore a letter from a young age, I am not a dipshit.
Speaking of NHL captains, you realize there is also another young one out there? His name is Ovechkin. You think he got it because of his sportsmanship and leadership? Hell fucking no. His organization gave it to him for publicity and the way he represents the team at game time. Their fucking press release on it even admitted it, said there was another guy who the whole team looked up to and acted as captain for everything other than the sixty minutes of ice the public sees. I just wish the Chiefs would grow a pair too.

People with an abreviated name, such as JJ, normally do have a legal name on their birth certificate. Hense the name, James.
And it shouldn’t matter the age, sophomore, or whatever,
they made the choice going with Cowen for a reason.
Give him a chance and take your eyes off of Tyler for
like seven seconds of the game.
The end.

Am I aloud to drop the “c” word here? I’ll refrain for now. You are clearly not the brightest, but try to follow this: I DO NOT HAVE A RAGING BONER FOR TYLER JOHNSON LIKE 99% OF THE ATTENDANCE. But he does deserve to be rewarded. Age is not what we’re talking about, guess I shouldn’t have assumed you would be able to read between the lines. Cowen had a chance ALL LAST SEASON. I have even had an open mind the beginning of this season and just last night when the game was tied with less than a minute I saw Cowen give up on a scramble in front of the net. When your captain doesn’t give a shit, how does the team stay motivated? Luckily we have other players and a damn good coach who help that now. HENCE, that is all.

Cowen is opening a bakery:
COME GET JARED COWENS FAMOUS TURNOVERS MY FRIENDS!!!
I know holy cow kids he scored a goal and I acknowledge that but one score doesn’t out weigh all the bad. For instance the last period penalty last night that we couldn’t afford obviously!
THE FREAKING END!

If the coach knew he was planning to give Cowen the C if/when he returned what was the point of naming Tyler captain? I dont know how the WHL works but why not play it like Montreal did and have 3 Alt. Captains if the coach even had the idea of Cowen returning.
Instead the organization made all this hoopla about Tyler Johnson being named Spokane’s new Captain, why do that to fans and to the players? It sounds like a big PR joke to me.
Also Wrap in the NHL you can alternate the C, don’t know if you can do that in WHL.
By: tsijohn on October 6, 2010

Exactly. There was a lot of fanfare picking Johnson as captain. Considering the team went a while last season sans captain. The organization made the choice and announced it. Then it went back to Cowen.
Cool, good to know about the NHL. I might have to look into the W.
By: wrap around curl on October 6, 2010

I think that it’s kind of awful that they do a big announcement about Johnson being captain then it’s all oh jk Cowen’s back so now he’s captain again.
I’m sure it meant a lot to Johnson to be named captain of his hometown team & to have it go down like this is just sad for him.
I didn’t think Cowen performed well with the C and that Johnson is deserving because of how hard he works night in and night out.
I don’t know why they can’t at very least split like Schenn/Calvert did last year in Brandon.

HA you tell em’ Wrap! This is your turf and your run this bitch!
As for Cowen with the C…its complete crap and I think the fans should let the organization (Speltz) know how we feel. We are being raped by the $17.00 ticket prices and pay their fucking salary and after working in customer service related jobs you know that if you lose the fans you lose your team.
