Hello darlings!

I assume you found this site from Puck Daddy. And you were probably disappointed to find there is nothing current. In a short span I transferred schools and moved 300 miles from home. But I hope to get back into the swing of things, looking at the WHL from the greater Portland area (okay, I’m in Vancouver, WA, its just across the river). I’ve got a new angle from my former Chiefs centric life.

I love the Maple Leafs, Dr Pepper and my favorite Muse album is Origin of Symmetry.

“The 2010-11 season wasn’t supposed to go this way for the Spokane Chiefs. After losing in the first round of the playoffs to Portland last season, and with top scorers Kyle Beach and Mitch Wahl moving to the next level, the Chiefs were picked to fade into the pack in the WHL’s Western Conference.

But Spokane native Tyler Johnson wasn’t going to let that happen. The overage centre, who has won Memorial Cup and World Junior titles, ranks second in the league in scoring with 106 points. He’s tied with Chilliwack’s Ryan Howse for the league lead in goals with 48. And his leadership, along with breakout years from several teammates, has the Chiefs aiming for the top seed in the West.”

Midweek Madness

I was feeling good about tonight’s game as the last two Wednesday games have been blowouts (which I haven’t even cobbled summaries for) including one game with a Jared Cowen hat trick. To say I was stunned that occurred would be like merely commenting the ocean is only damp. Plus playingwpoise and I have discovered Wednesday games are more fun when you wear slippers.

Something tonight was just weird. The Chiefs played with random spurts of energy. They put up three goals easy enough and seemed to cruise. Seattle made a good effort to climb back in the game and level up the scoreboard. We ended up in overtime, which I never handle well. And Seattle was quick on the draw and got the game winner.

Major kudos to Thunderbird Burke Gallimore for posting a hat trick and an assists. I’m sorry you couldn’t do it on home ice, darling.

The Chiefs have too many players with last names starting with V, I can’t keep anything straight.

Leedahl leaves for medical reasons

Spokane Chief defenseman Garrett Leedahl has announced that he will be leaving the team due to medical reasons. The 19-year-old has been out of the line-up since suffering a head injury on November 2nd at Saskatoon.

“It was hard to come up with my decision,” Leedahl said. “My family, the team and I came to this point after talking to the doctors and neurologists. We realized it will be best for my future to retire from hockey.”

In his two year career Leedahl had appeared in 31 games, missing large portions of both seasons due to concussions.

“We fully support Garrett’s decision,” Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said. “He has done of great job of listening and getting input from our medical team and his family. Ultimately, he has made a choice that is the best for him and his future. He made a tough decision and we stand behind him.”

“It is a really tough decision,” Leedahl said. “It was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make. Its going to be tough leaving all the guys behind and everything here, but something that it is going to be better for my future,” Leedahl said.

“I really appreciate everything that Spokane has done for me here. Its a great organization. I had a lot of fun while I was here.”

Originally a sixth round selection in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, Leedahl will now turn his attention to his education. The Saskatoon, SK native plans to attend the University of Saskatchewan next year.

“I have my education all paid for so its a good back up plan that Spokane has given me. I’m not leaving empty handed. I have received a lot from the organization and I really appreciate it.”

“We appreciate the commitment that Garrett has given our team and wish him the best in the future,” Speltz said.

All the best, Garrett. I’m really glad you’re going to pursue your education. Thanks for all your awesome work in a Chiefs sweater, I loved ya.

As you’ve probably noticed, its been quiet around here. My posting has uhm, been inconsistent and sloppy at best and I’m really sorry. I’ve got my own life now that kinda doesn’t leave me much room for hockey as I’d like. I canceled my Center Ice because I couldn’t afford it, which made me sad.

I go to the Chiefs games when I can and I’ve been happy with the fresh blood and new coaching. I watch the Leafs when it works out. I was dazzled by how they started the season. The team brought on new talent and seemed to face the season with a new attitude. I was as always, cautiously optimistic. I found so many parts to love and be happy about.

If anything I’ve learned in my short time as a Leafs fan, it sure as shit ain’t easy. But it comes down to how you want to be part of it. Personally, I don’t want to dwell in a pit of suck and constantly be saying I’m over the team and giving it up. As much as I adore them, I don’t live and die and expect my happiness as a person to be on them. It’d be a nice perk, absolutely. But I have other things.

I’m mad you’re mad. I’m mad you can’t be happy with the tiny victories and enjoy what we have. I’m mad you take a sick joy in amplifying your misery and others. I’m mad that there are so many of you getting louder and louder. I just want to watch the game. I just want to see glorious hipchecks. I just want to take in dazzling saves.

But you won’t let me. I have so much chaos and craziness and hockey is my constant.

You’re ruining my love.

I really hate you for it.

Dick Move of the Week

I forgot to do it last week, but Sean Avery chopping away at Mike Komisarek was not cool at all. One, Komi is a gentleman and a scholar. Two, what the hell Avery? Don’t you have a long enough list of offenses? I know, this is a tad ironic coming from me given all the times I’ve defended his prior actions. But really, he was classless. I hope Colton Orr eats Avery tonight in the Leafs game.

So then this happened:

And while the week isn’t over yet, I’m not sure who can top Rypien going after a fan for no real reason. Though, it sort of made me long for the days when Darcy Tucker would have beers poured on him in the penalty box and would climb out and pound faces. Then again, I’d be pretty embarrassed if the Wild thumped my team that hard.

Anyways, congrats to Rick on winning Dick Move of the Week!

Great Eight.

I have this weird thing where I dread midweek games. Since I feel like its a time to slack. Don’t worry, I have this same irrational feeling towards the Leafs.

However, did the boys deliver. Right out of the gate and something like 43 seconds into the first period. The boys put up four goals in twenty minutes, including two from Blake Gal. By the second, he got his hat trick. I will not let him cut his hair. That’s where his power is. But I like to tell myself he’s growing it out to be like Kris Letang.

Darren Kramer finally showed his truculent side. I wasn’t the only one giddy with delight. Pretty sure some of the other dames were thinking “I now need a Kramer sweater.” Darren, we welcome you to Spokane.

The team skated exceptionally hard in the first and second. The effort tapered off in the third, but they were worn down. But they kept control of the game and put Calgary in their place.

It was a really sexy game. I think we all left pregnant from those gorgeous top shelf goals scored.

Also it was totally sweet that the Chiefs let Mac Engel take to the net for the last eight minutes or so. He was so excited and it was contagious.

This made me happy. Looooook.

Final damage: 8-1 Spokane.

not gone well

Last night, really wasn’t spectacular. Right from the get go it was clear James Reid was off. He was shaky and just couldn’t seem to stand firm in net. Reid was all over, bumbling like a Weeble Wobble. It was really bizarre to see. It was like remembering when Tara Reid was awesome circa American Pie then remembering her now. It was a contrast, to say. Aviani and Vanscourt sure were shot blocking fiends. The scoreboard could have been a lot worse, but a few of the players did their part to bail out the netminding. Cupcakes for them.

I bought a new Chiefs touque to continue my tradition of getting a new hat every season. I think that was my favorite part of the game. Because it certainly wasn’t the dismal crowd or Captain Cowen. Holy turnovers.

Really though, Portland is a fantastic team that can effectively use their size and bulk. Hat tip to Tyler Johnson especially for playing out of his weight class and laying some really solid hits. Levko Koper was on a nice tear as well. But I imagine most of us are just waiting for Krammer to drop the mitts.

I think these are all the words the game was worth.
