Mendelson Out As Assistant Coach

May 6, 2009 · 5 Comments

Sliding into my inbox the Chiefs newsletter;

“The Spokane Chiefs have announced that Leigh Mendelson’s contract as Assistant Coach will not be renewed for the 2009-10 season. Mendelson served one season as the Chiefs Assistant Coach.

“I hope Leigh looks back at this season in Spokane as a positive experience in his coaching career,” Chiefs Head Coach Hardy Sauter said. “I would like to thank him for his time, work and dedication to the team.”

“We appreciate Leigh’s commitment and contribution to our organization and wish him the best moving forward,” Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said.

The search for a replacement will begin immediately.

“This will be an important hire for our organization. For us to be successful moving forward we will need to find the right fit for Hardy,” Speltz said.

AsThePuckTurns emailed me as well with one simple message typed out in a red font;

BRUTON FOR ASSISTANT COACH!!!!!!!!!

I hope I hope I hopeeeeee. I know Chris Bruton is bizzay with the Acadia Axmen and his schooling. Maybe one day he can return to the Chiefs. He truly was a captain and a leader during his time as a Chief. And a good ol’ Canadian boy too. Plus he did knock out Kyle Beach one time.

Also things that are hilariously awesome;

The goalie pairing for next season will probably Reid and Wright. WORD PLAY LIZ LEMON!

Alright, so the hockey blogs have grinded to a halt. Which totally sucks.

However, skip on over to the boyos at He Score, He Shoot and listen to their newest podcast. Get back to me on who your favorite is; Moose or Greener.

Jenn posted an amazing vid she snagged off Youtube. If you don’t like that video? You are letting the terrorists win.

Dani has some suggestions about the Hockey Night in Canada theme song fiasco.

Alix lists the lessons she learned this season from the Canucks.

Loser Domi and I collabed on this literary gem. Face off pie. What is not to like?

Finally; check out Steve Dangle’s latest vid. He has the Don Cherry suit justtttt right. He was just missing a spray tan.

Also, WordPress is being a slut bucket and won’t let me embed videos at the moment.

EDIT;

So, since Jenn somehow reads more on the internet than me. She emails me this story. By the way, Chris Bruton is hilarious. And there is a tidbit about my pretty pretty goalie.

For old time’s sake. I could watch this on repeat for days

We pulled it off. We really pulled it off.

The Chiefs brought home the Memorial Cup and posted a perfect 4-0 for the round-robin tournament Kitchener, Ontario defeating the Belleville Bulls, the Gatineau Olympiques and the Kitchener Rangers (twice).

Dustin Tokarski was named the MVP making an astounding 53 saves for this game. I expect his stock to now shoot up come June. Like, top of the list jump. I also expect some other Chiefs to get some much deserved love for the draft and I am thrilled. Someone has Mitch Wahl’s number, right?

I am pretty much dancing on my toes. I have no idea how I am sitting still and writing this out.

I have left out the best part. When they gave Chris Bruton the cup? He dropped it. It broke. The cup popped off the base. It was honestly the funniest thing I have ever seen. The fans in the arena were in shock, and booed. Then I think it was Trevor Glass, swooped in and picked up one of the pieces and was like “Yeah! We won!” and everyone seemed to get over it. They passed around the two parts. And for the team picture, Drayson Bowman is holding the trophy together.

There is already video….

It’s actually kinda adorable. This rag tag group of kids make it all the way and win. They break the coveted trophy. And don’t even fucking care. There was nothing but pure joy to be seen. Ecstatic they some how clawed their was through these teams and bested them all. This fight is longer and harder than the one for Lord Stanley, then it all comes down to a round-robin tournament and one final game.

These kids aren’t millionaires. They go back to being regular kids who just happened to do something amazing. They are playing hockey out of sheer joy and love.

Total wins this season: 70.

The score summary. I could have written about what actually happened in the game. I might later on. For now? I am nothing but proud of these ragamuffins.

One last time; TOKARSKI SAVES.

bringing it home.

May 8, 2008 · 7 Comments

The Chiefs welcome home rally was nice and sweet. I felt bad for the boys, you could see they were effing exhausted. They came straight from Lethbridge last night and went to the arena this morning. They arrived at the Arena on their bus.

Which, by the way, could use a paint job. Unless the point is for no one to know the the Chiefs bus looks like. But the Vancouver Giants have a classy bus. I know, I saw it at the mall when I got off work. In fact, that day a few of the Giants came into where I work (Victoria’s Secret). How did I know they were Giants? They were out shopping in their green fucking tracksuits. Plus, their hair was a giveaway.

Back to my point if I ever had one.But they really were all smiles and thrilled by the fans, I think. Chris Bruton is probably exhausted from hoisting the Cup in the air for numerous photo ops.

OMG, you guys. Justin Falk wear glasses. Which look nothing like Sean Avery’s glasses. More like Stephen Colbert’s.
Also, when did Curtis Kelner lose a tooth? Sweetie, have that fixed. I bet you can borrow a tooth from Mitch Wahl.

The pictures aren’t the greatest because I am short and was nearish the back.

Look at those beards! I had to laugh when a few of the players took pictures of the crowd taking pictures of them. I think they were surprised by how many of us showed up. Because well it was 7 am on a weekday and it was a bit cold out.

Take a break, boys. Not too long though. You have a fight ahead of you.

Also, this is the 100th post. If you asked me if I thought I would have lasted this long. I would have said no. Let’s see, this all wouldn’t have been possible without…well I dunno actually. Thanks for all the support from the family of hockey bloggers. See, people really do like hockey after all. Thanks for all the peeps who read this and bear with my extremely chaotic nature.

bang for the buck.

April 21, 2008 · 2 Comments

Alright, what is there to be said about last night’s game? Oh, that it was nearly the same game as Friday. And the winning goal did not occur until the second overtime period. Except it was the Ams and not the Chiefs. I won’t lie I was getting a bit tired in the break before the second overtime. I recall whining, “I am missing the Rock of Love reunion.”

It was a nice and neat game. For the most part all the Ams fans were all nice and my non-existent billy club was not needed. Though the music at the game? Oh god was it awful. It was like every band I have ever hated. Played the entire time. Oh and the Cotton Eyed Joe. Boys and men everywhere tore off their shirts. Twirled them over head. My eyes burned. I felt a little vomm coming on.

I will never support the shirt off twirling it overhead unless I am around men of David Beckham caliber. If Clive Owen or Gerard Butler wanted to do that, I’d be like “well shit, ok.” But you, dollface? Put your fucking shirt back on.

I really hope the next games do not go into two overtime periods. Because I am a girl who does not handle stress well.

Now for some pictures of my pretty, pretty boys.

this time, it’s serious.

April 15, 2008 · Comments Off

So just went down last night? Obviously I was hopped up on sugar which does not lend itself to crafting such quality posts you expect to see here (ha!).

So in the first period we have Jared Cowen scoring from Justin McCrae and Judd Blackwater. Dustin Tokarski stopped all shots in the first. But then again, there wasn’t much to stop in the first.

The second period is where is started to get a bit messy. Not by the fault of the Chiefs. The reffing went from a very fair and even first to a terribly biased in favor of the Giants in the second. I think the men in stripes were after David Rutherford or something. Seriously, I didn’t think the refs were going to leave in one piece. People were ready to climb the glass. Then Giants score on a power play. Freaking Bliznak…

But, the Chiefs will not go down like that. Ondrej Roman from Drayson Bowman and Stefan Ulmer. Oh was it a pretty pretty goal. Which makes sense because Roman is a pretty pretty player.

The Giants then did as expected. They pulled their goalie. YES. El Capitan, Chris Bruton smacked in the empty netter from McCrae and Blackwater.

I waved like Miss America and wished the Giants the best.
I think I snapped some pictures last night.

It’s looking like the crew will be traveling to Tri. There will need to be a lot of us. Safety in numbers and such. I will bring my billy club.

As an aside, it’s a legitimate strategy.

About last night

March 27, 2008 · Comments Off

I did not listen to the Chiefs game last night because I was too deep into the Avs/Canucks massacre. Luongo was having a terrible night and really just needs a break. Sanford is a mediocre back up goalie and the ‘Couv cannot expect Luo to carry the team all the time.

Back to the Chiefs;

Scoring in the first period was Levko Koper. Ondrej Roman scores in the second from David Rutheford and Judd Blackwater. Silvertip Gendur also scored in the second. Drayson Bowman smacks one in the third from Chris Bruton and Mitch Wahl. Then Judd Blackwater slides in an empty-netter from Jared Cowen and Jared Spurgeon. Final score 4-1 Chiefs. Dustin Tokarski stopped 28 of 29 shots.
Friday is a must win situation Everett. Which has me wondering if they will be out for blood. Or if this will not be the case given the Remparts incident.

bring the ruckus

March 22, 2008 · 1 Comment

The playoffs were kicked off by well, kicking the shit out of Everett. The first period saw the Chiefs 3-3 on the power play. Bowman, Rutherford and Blackwater scored in the first. A ‘Tip snuck in a top shelfer beginning of the second, but Bruton returned the favor. Everett scored in the third. But all was well as Bowman smacked in his second for the evening.

Everett was out for blood as usual. Harty  (by Harty I mean Crowley) tried to start a fight with Bruton but he was smart enough to skate off so Harty was in the box on instigating. Clearly, the Chiefs have their head in the right place. It was quick and muscular play tonight. Tokarski was brilliant in the pipes, he had amazing defense to work with. I was impressed with how hard the boys were skating, particularly Rutherford.
Final score: 5-2 Spokane.
Chiefs are at home again tomorrow against Everett.

hey, it’s me calling

March 15, 2008 · 1 Comment

Hey uhm, Portland? Sorry if that was kinda awkward. Listen, I think we should try and be friends? This whole fooling around thing and being fuck buddies was kinda awesome. We need some time apart. We had a good time tonight, right? I mean I scored on you with Bowman from Bruton and Roman. Then Koper from Johnson and Falk. And it was awesome. And then in the second, Rutherford, Bowman and McCrae all got between your pipes. Roman snuck in the third. Portland, it was a lot of fun. You’re a great chick. But I just need some me time now. Thanks for being so understanding. And doing my chemistry lab. Talk to you soon!

The strong and domineering type.

March 6, 2008 · 1 Comment

Oh tonight was not even fair.

Portland starts their 1-17(!!!!!!!!!) goalie. No, that is not a typo. First, how do you allow a goalie to get that fucking terrible? Second, why are you still keeping him around? I could be a better goalie. Strap some mattresses on me and I am good to go. Anyways. So, within the first minute and some change. Goal. Ten seconds later. Goal. One second after that, Portland goalie pulled.

Really, it was too easy and felt kinda mean. Because Portland is a not so hot team. So it was like, Portland was some cute, meek chick. Then some sex bomb like Clive Owen just stormed in and was like “panties off” and you have to listen. Because he is Clive Owen and he has that deep and commanding voice. Portland was steamrolled.

Posting goals:

Mitch Wahl-2
Jared Spurgeon-1 (and 3 assists!)
Justin McCrae-1
Chris Bruton-1

Army had an easy night in the pipes. Final score 5-1
Judd Blackwater was the player magnet.

Chocolate rain, y’all

February 24, 2008 · 3 Comments

Ok, so hang with me. Just a bitttt hungover. Otherwise I would have posted last night. But I didn’t want to embarrass myself the next morning with drunken blogging. I have been there. The typos ain‘t pretty.So last night completely and utterly ruled. A bit of playing the Tri Cities at home problem may have been solved. First, you rain down four goals in the first period. Second, you destroy the spirit of Tri Cities goalie Chet Pickard. Third, continue to allow David Rutherford to be a p-i-m-p.First period saw goals from Seth Compton, David Rutherford, Chris Bruton and Drayson Bowman. Which saw me gloating and screaming at the Ams fans a few rows in front of me.If you wear a Colton Yellow Horn jersey. Expect shit talking. No one likes that guy. Second period no goals from Spokane but two from the Ams. Whatever, I would just point at the scoreboard. Third period one goal from the Ams and two more from Spokane. Another goal for Rutherford and Mitch Wahl scored an empty netter Chalupa getter goal.The ice was pink and the Chiefs had pink stick tape in support of curing breast cancer. Though I think if the Chiefs were serious they would have the boys in pink jerseys and then auction those off. Because it would rule to have a pink jersey. Even though I hate girlie jerseys. If it’s for a good cause, hells yeah I am in. But if they were to auction them off, do not allow billets or parents of the players to bid. It seems tacky and sucks for fans.

The funny part is how much the Ams out shot us, but we were more successful with our shots.

McCrae is out with the flu. Get better, yo. Campbell’s soup and America’s Next Top Model reruns do wonders for your health.

Pictures to come later.

All hail St. Tokarski.

In your face Kyle Beach!

February 7, 2008 · Comments Off

Luckily, there were no Everett fans in attendance this evening. Though it was to be expected it with it being a Wednesday and whatnot. Mike Reddington was our player magnet. About two minutes into the game an Everett player was down, and I was having flashes of the Beach/Bruton fiasco. But he skated off with assistance. Back to the game, Justin McCrae popped one in. I love that kid, what a great player we acquired. I was kinda sad I had no Everett fans to taunt. But it was cool, everyone just screamed at Kyle Beach.

Trevor Glass smacked one in the first as well, assisted by McCrae. Then Chris Bruton decided he needed a goal and did it unassisted.

Levko Koper also had a goal. That kid needs to do that more often. He is good at it.

Ryan Letts had two fights racking up at least 10 minutes in penalties. He was gunning for English, which I probably would have done. Everett plays dirty. Sticks were frequently smacked away and kicked around by the ‘Tips.

McCrae had a Gordie Howe hattie, fighting in the third and getting ejected from the game.

Once again, as always: Tokarski saves. Only one goal slide past him and he had 34 saves.

On the docket;

February 6, 2008 · Comments Off

The Chiefs have a full plate coming up. Tomorrow night we throw down with Everett. Everett fans make me groan the most because they are typically assholes. They spill beers and don’t wait for the whistle. They tend to displace a lot of mass as well (fatties). However, usually if they are older, they tend to be a bit nicer and more reasonable. Oh, and it’s player magnet night, y’all! I haven’t missed one in two seasons.

Friday we face Seattle. I don’t have much to say about them, since not many typically show up. It’s probably a downgrade to travel from Seattle to Spokane. We probably don’t have enough Starbucks to suit their tastes.

Saturday is the real groaner. It’s Tri City. Which is probably Buck Night. Which I find to be a curse. I get all wired up on dollar sodas then angsty when we lose. Also, avoid being anywhere near someone who is in a Tri City Americans jersey. You will be overcome with the urge to punch them in the face. And ask them to not eat up all the dollar popcorn.

Chris Bruton has a captain’s blog. Which is here It’s nice, but a tad wordy. I think Bruton would probably write something short, with bullet points and some intern decided to punch it up to the point where it is a bit dull.
